Which area would you suggest??

For staying 2-3 nights in Mid June.

I know the public transport is excellent but if i wanted to walk to some sights, or maybe have a short break during the day back at the accom which area would you suggest I stay in..

(LOL, for Sydney it%26#39;s by the harbour)

Which area would you suggest??

The central shopping area, Kawaramachi / Sanjo where the buses inevitably return to, would be a good area to rest in the middle of the day. Also close by to many restaurants for lunch, or cafes, bakeries for sandwiches, or pop into a great cafe -- Cafe Independant on Sanjo St, in the basement (old newspaper building) ! Kyoto Royal Hotel / Kyoto Hotel Okura - upmarket hotels in this area. Depends on the grade of accommodation but this area is very convenient right in the middle.

Prices can%26#39;t be beat, great buffet breakfast, excellent location. make your reservations now, as this place is popular with locals...

Thanks Maneki

will look into it..

Staying in the Higashiyama area is prefect if you have 2-3 days. It%26#39;s where more than half of the historical sites are and it%26#39;s charming (old Kyoto with small wooden buildings). Certain enclaves have canals running through them.
