I was very fortunate and found a room in Takayama for April 14 and 15, in order to see the festival. Now I am working on getting there. Will I need to make reservations before in order to get three seats for my family on the 10:56 AM shinkassen train from Kyoto to Nagoya, then connecting with the train to Takayama? I will have a 7-day Rail Pass, which I was planning on activating just the morning of April 14.
I am wondering if I should buy a separate round trip ticket Kyoto-Takayama, so that I can buy the ticket and thus make seat reservations as soon as we arrive in Japan on April 11th.
