JR Pass Reservations

Hi,

I had a quick question regarding reservations on a JR Pass. Do I have to make all my seat reservations when I exchange my voucher for the pass, or can I add/modify reservations later on? Anything else I need to know regarding the pass?

Thanks,

- JK

JR Pass Reservations

You can make reservations at any time. If you change your plans, please notify JR so that they can free up your seat and sell it to someone else. You can also set the pass start date for a different date than the date you exchange your voucher for the pass.

Thanks, that%26#39;s very helpful! One more question - when you say %26#39;sell%26#39; the seat - do JR Pass holders have to pay anything additional for seat reservations? I thought that it was only for overnight trains that you had to pay more.

Thanks,

- JK

JR Pass holders do not have to pay for seat reservations. However, if you reserve the seat and not use it, the seat could go to somebody else without a pass which is a revenue generator for the rail company. That%26#39;s the meaning of JR being able to ';sell'; the seat to someone else to make money if you cancel your reservation.

You enter and exit each station, pass opened, where the station agent stands, not through the gates. Then put your pass away, it%26#39;s like gold.

Indeed it is; it costs almost the same as ten grams of gold :)

Look forward to a great trip, thanks to all the useful posts here!
